In terms of infrastructure and technology support, Jupiter is top among the other colleges in its class in Orissa. All the galleries and class rooms are spacious and air conditioned enough to ensure fatigue-free teaching and learning inside the class rooms. Teaching is imparted with the help of LCD Projector and hi-fi acoustic arrangements. Audibility is evenly distributed throughout the classroom at an optimum decibel, which is electronically controlled.


Jupiter’s Library is furnished with huge number of textbooks, reference books and journals on each subject for both +2 Science Exam. and Entrance Exam. Besides, there are plenty of books of general interest meant for improving the students’ wisdom in different fields. The competitive books are published by famous Indian & Foreign publishers. Some books of very high quality and rare availability have been stored here for reference only. In fact, Jupiter’s Library can help the students not only for +2 Exams. But also for Medical & Engineering studies.


Separate hostels for both Boys and Girls are available with in-house superintendents. The hostels are at walking distance from college. All the rooms of the main hostel are 3 seated with attached toilet. The rooms are furnished. All the hostels are connected by telephone. Hygienic food is provided in hostel. Guest room facility is provided inside the hostel for visiting parents. Parents can stay in the hostel with prior booking at nominal rent. Students desirous of staying in hostel have to apply separately. Only studious candidates with a disciplined bent of mind are allowed to stay in the hostel.
Proper and peaceful hostel facilities are provided separately to the boys and girls along with the provision of fording (4 times a day). Faculties in commerce are also available in the hostel for guidance and doubt clearance of the students.

General Information:The Library is open from 10-30 A.M. to 4 P.M. on all days except on Sundays and authorized holidays.

Rules for Borrowers or Books:

No book should be taken out of the library without the knowledge of the Librarian and until it has been properly entered in the loan register and the entry attested by the borrower.

  • Each borrower must examine the condition of the book before it is issued otherwise, in case of any mutilation discovered later, the presumption will be against the borrower.
  • Book should be returned the period allowed to a borrower.
  • When the date for the return of a book falls on an authorized holiday, it should be returned to the library on the day the college opens after the Holiday.
  • All books belonging to the library and in the possession of borrower should be returned to the library before the College closes for the Summer Vacation on or before the date notified for the purpose.
  • Whoever might have a library book in his possession should return it to the library whenever he receives a requisition notice for the return of the book from the librarian.
  • No marginal or other notes or marking shall be made in the library books nor shall any pictures or pages be removed or torn or otherwise disfigured. In extreme case the borrower shall be asked to replace the books damaged by him.
  • A borrower against whom any overdue or other charge is outstanding, shall not be allowed to borrow books from the library and anyone who has got a library deposit shall not be allowed to withdraw his deposit until the library dues are cleared.
  • All those who may happen to be inside the library or in its are expected to observe strict vicinity silence.
  • Library premises should not be used for any purpose other than reading or consulting books and periodicals of the library.
  • Spitting, smoking, sleeping inside the library are strictly forbidden.
  • The following is the list showing the maximum the number of books that may be issued to the various classes of borrower.

    • Others
    • The Principal, if he so desires, may make special provisions for the teaching staff and the students.
  • A book once issued may be re-issued to the borrower only when no body else want that book. Books for re-issue must be returned to the library for the relevant entries in the register.
  • Permission of the lectures of the different subjects is required for borrowing text-books. Reference books are not to be taken hame without the permission of the lecturers-in-charge of the library.
  • Periodicals are not to be taken into the classes, nor can they be taken home expect with special permission of the lecturer-in-charge of the library
  • Time allowed to borrower (expect the members of staff) is 15 days.


If any book is lost, the price of the lost book shall be collected from the borrower, if he/she is unable to replace the book.

  • Students who do not return the book within the time allowed, will be fined Re. 1/- per book for each extra day of delay. Student taking the periodical to the class will be fined Rs. 3/- per day.
  • Students borrowing books from the library should be that the library card is properly completed. They should also present the cards while returning books.
  • If a student loses his card, another card will be issued to him on application and payment of Rs. 5.00.
  • Persons using the library are supposed to have read the library rules and are strictly abide by them. Ignorance of the library rules will be no excuse for the breach of any rule.
  • members of the Teaching staff are expected to use their influence to promote observance of these rules whenever they are in the library and report to this Principal cases of deliberate disobedience and misbehavior. All talking expect what is absolutely necessary for the transaction of the library business is forbidden inside the library.

Rules of College Lending Library

  • The books purchased on this head with the financial assistance of the University Grants Commission will be available to poor and meritorious students on long term lending basis and will be kept separately under the head “Text Book Library”.
  • For this purpose the annual income of the father or guardian of the student must not exceed Rs. 6,000 (Rupees six Thousand).
  • A student, belonging to the above category will be entitled to receive books from the Text Book Library in deposition of special caution money to the extent of 25% of the face value of the books, which will be refunded to the student, when the books will be returned, after making deductions for damage etc.
  • Apart from depositing 25% of the price of the book the students should deposit the remaining 75% of the price as caution money just after their text examination or as an alternative they should give surely of one responsible member of the staff from whom the price will be recovered and when the student fails to return the book within one session.
  • Separate register for the issue of books from the Test Book. Library will be maintained and books will be issued to deserving students according to the following quota.      B.Sc. (Honours)    Up to Five Books      B.Sc. (pass)    Up to Three Books      +2 Sc.    Three books
  • Books will be issued to a student on a long term basis.
  • Books meant for Honours students will be issued only to such a student and those meant fro B. Sc. (pass) or +2 Students will be issued to the students studying in these classes respectively.
  • These rules are subject a addition, alternation and amendment by the Principal.

There is an Athletic Society for conducting the games and sports of the College. The society consists of the Principal as the Ex-officio President, a member of the teaching staff to act as a Vice-President two or more members of staff as members, two students to be elected by the students as the Secretary, Assistant Secretary and one representative of each section of each class of the College.

Activities of Athletic Society:

The college, takes a keen interest in the different Inter College Tournaments conducted by the Utkal University Sports Council. The College also participates in some of the tournaments conducted by the local sports body. To enable the College to participate, in different games, regular inter-class tournaments are held to select the College team.

These inter-class matches help to develop team spirit and sportsmanship in the students. Those also enable the students to develop a sense of awareness to the importance of games and sports and instill in them qualities of leadership. The inter-class matches have enabled the Society to select the best talent available in the College on the performances of the players in the different interclass encounters.

 The self-defence training under the Orissa State Youth Policy, 2013 would teach the girls the basic steps of self-defence. Director of Sports and Youth Services D V Swamy said before the trainers go to the schools and colleges, they would undergo training at the Kalinga Stadium here from July 14. At the end of training, each trainer would get a certificate.

Women do not ask for, cause, invite, or deserve to be assaulted. Women and men sometimes exercise poor judgement about safety behaviour, but that does not make them responsible for the attack. Attackers are responsible for their attacks and their use of violence to overpower, control, and abuse another human being.

Whatever a woman’s decision in a given self-defence situation, whatever action she does or does not take, she is not at fault. A woman’s decision to survive the best way she can must be respected. Self-defence classes should not be used as judgement against a victim/survivor.

Good self-defence programmes do not “tell” an individual what she “should” or “should not” do. A program should offer options, techniques, and a way of analyzing situations. A program may point out what USUALLY works best in MOST situations, but each situation is unique and the final decision rests with the person actually confronted by the situation.

Self-defence is a set of awareness, assertiveness, verbal confrontation skills, safety strategies, and physical techniques that enable someone to successfully escape, resist, and survive violent attacks. A good self-defence course provides psychological awareness and verbal skills, not just physical training.

To put the ambitious self-defence training programme of the State Government for college girls back on track, the Higher Education Department has decided to hold camps for master trainers beginning this month.

 The department has also decided to open a self-defence training cell for monitoring and coordinating the programme at the State-level.

The State Government had implemented the scheme in 2013 under Odisha State Youth Policy. Training for girl students of Plus II and Plus III colleges was essential in view of the rise in crimes against women. But the programme was left mid-way in many districts as there were not enough master trainers.

During inception of the programme, around 300 trainers were officially short-listed to impart self-defence skills including martial arts to college girls. While 200 trainers were selected from colleges, police provided 100 trainers for the purpose.

Sources said the programme had to be abandoned as the master trainers provided by police did not attend the training camps at regular intervals. A total of 2.5 lakh girls were to be covered in 2013 and the number increased to 5, 37,418 girls last year.

Sources in the department said for the total number of girls who would be trained in self-defence, 600 additional master trainers are required. The number would further rise in the new academic year.

Officer in-charge of self-defence training programme UN Sahoo said a pool of 600 master trainers would be created this year and their training will begin from Thursday at Utkal Karate School in Bhubaneswar. The training camp will be held in phases for seven days every month till the target is achieved.

The department has also asked principals of the nodal colleges to prepare a list of available master trainers in their areas.

With the Delhi gang rape case in mind, the  state  government will give self-defence training to around three lakh girls in schools and colleges from August 1.The course curriculum for the trainers has been designed by city-based Utkal Karate School, a martial arts training school.

DU Day Boarding

The DU Day Boarding objective is  to develop talent of student in an unequivocal, clear & strong educational mission and an institutional vision, where the child is taught in a dignified manner to provide liberal and comprehensive education as well as  to develop values in the integrity, honour, dignity and a versatile character.

Adjacent to the dormitory is the mess hall where wholesome food is served under hygienic conditions to DU Day care students . Special care is taken to make the food dietically well balanced and nutritious. Outside food is strictly  forbidden into the Dining hall of DU day care. The school provides  vegetarian as well as non vegetarian  food  in the daily menu. The menu is supplemented with dairy products and fruits( If requires). The day  care staff too eat along with the children as a friend , philosopher & guide.

Our Library

The Library is the nerve centre of any educational complex and more so in a progressive school like Lucent International School. Due emphasis is therefore, laid on encouraging the students to spend time in the library to widen their mental horizon and develop a taste for reading. It is aptly remarked ‘Investment in knowledge is the best interest’. The Library is operated on the Open Access System wherein a child can peruse, browse and pore over a wide range of books, journals, encyclopedias and lexicons, to encourage reading habits. ‘Class Library’ is also operated through class teachers.

But sadly enough this joy and bliss is systematically smothered and snuffed out by the environment at home and at school. The largest single factor responsible for robbing children of their joy and bliss is the drudgery involved in learning right from early childhood. We at DPS Siliguri, which opens its portals right from the Nursery section, try to promote joy of learning as well as learning of joy at all stages, though more specially at the primary level. We accomplish this in our tiny tots through joyous activities like water games and various other creative games. The curriculum at this stage is structured to eliminate boredom and enhance learning pleasure, thus making learning a joyful experience.
